Sardinian Investment Group began with the entrepreneurial initiatives of the Sardinian geometer Mario Mela with the operation of serviced apartments. This lead into other areas within the tourism property sector and resulted in a number of very successful businesses operating in property development, construction and Real Estate.
Great talent and business insight, together with deep knowledge in the property sector, enabled Mr. Mela to create one of the biggest, and most important, property groups in Sardinia, with a reputable name, both within the Italian and international markets.

S.I.G. was then established by combining these various business initiatives to provide an investment platform with the confidence of over 30 years experience in the property sector.

S.I.G. has developed a business model which differs from the aspirations of traditional property development companies and provides greater returns by enabling investors to participate in the operations throughout the various stages of development. This diverse business model has the aim of increasing the groups cash-flow and enabling larger projects to be undertaken.

Economy

In its last report referring to the first half of 2008, The Bank of Italy stated that 77% of the Sardinian economy is focused on the tertiary sector. The industrial sector is underdeveloped and in deficit , while Tourism and Trade keep expanding. The tourist flow has increased by 4% , with a growth in the airport flow (+ 9,8%) and a reduction in the port flow (-1,1%).

Tourist Market

Together with the Italian tourists, the majority of them coming from northern and the central Italy, in the last few years the number of English, German, French, Swiss, Austrian and Russian people visiting Sardinia has increased. A growth trend of the Hungarian and Japanese flow can be also registered.
